Butler Twp PoliceThursday — Police charged Lauren E. Michaels, 18, of Renfrew with shoplifting $238 worth of cosmetics about 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Ulta Beauty store at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza. She is charged with misdemeanor counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property.5:21 p.m. Wednesday — An Armstrong County man was able to escape without injury after his car caught fire on New Castle Road. William Cousins, 54, of McGrann was able to drive to the Red Lobster restaurant at Moraine Pointe Plaza and park the vehicle before it was taken over by flames.Butler Township Volunteer Fire District 3 was called and put out the fire. The vehicle had to be towed.5:26 p.m. Sunday — A car driven by Kaylee D. Rutkowski, 20, of Butler rear-ended another vehicle on New Castle Road. Two passengers in the other vehicle, driven by Kalin Charmley, 23, of Pittsburgh, drove themselves to an unspecified location after complaining of pain.Rutkowski, whose car had to be towed, was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
Grove City Police10:53 p.m. Wednesday — John Zohoranacky, 25, of Mercer lost control of his vehicle on West Main Street and struck a utility pole. Zohoranacky was taken to Grove City Medical Center with unspecified injuries. His vehicle had to be towed.
Middlesex Twp PoliceWednesday — Timothy J. Kretzler, 25, of Pittsburgh was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop last month on Route 8. He was stopped, police said, after he ran a red light at the Browns Hill Road intersection.Kretzler’s van smelled of marijuana, according to a police report, and he appeared impaired. He was taken to the state police barracks where a drug recognition expert evaluated him.He was subsequently arrested and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results later showed he had marijuana in his system.Police said they also found a marijuana grinder in Kretzler’s book bag. They also found suspected marijuana and a marijuana grinder in the book bag of his passenger, a 15-year-old boy Gibsonia boy.Additionally, a marijuana pipe was found behind the boy’s seat.Kretzler is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and the red light violation, The boy, who police did not identify, is charged in Butler County juvenile court with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Butler County DetectivesWednesday — Detectives charged a Butler County Prison inmate with falsely accusing two other inmates of forcing him to perform sex acts on them.Charles W. Burgess Jr., 23, of Butler on Nov. 28 provided a written statement to prison officials accusing the other inmates of sexually abusing him twice, Nov. 21 and 25.The accused inmates denied wrongdoing, according to court documents. Burgess’ cell mate and video surveillance also contradicted Burgess’ accusations.When Chief Detective Charles Barger later confronted the defendant with the gathered evidence, documents said, he “admitted that he had made up the incident so that he could get moved to another pod in the prison.”Burgess is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities and false reports to law enforcement authorities.Wednesday — Marcus D. Register, 45, of Harrisville was charged with possession of a controlled substance by an inmate after he was found Dec. 8 with the prescription medication Suboxone.Register was placed in the prison on three warrants. A search turned up a condom hidden in his body, according to court documents. In the condom was a small Ziplock bag containing Suboxone strips and plastic wrap containing tobacco.Suboxone is prescribed to treat addiction to heroin and powerful painkillers like oxycodone.
State Police, Butler1:31 p.m. Thursday — Morganne E. Shook, 18, of Chicora lost control of her car, which struck an embankment before rolling over onto its side on Route 68 just south of Shearer Road in Oakland Township. Shook was not injured but her car had to be towed. Police cited her for driving too fast for conditions.Dec. 6 — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Eric J. Zmijowski, 35, of Slippery Rock Township in connection with a vice unit drug investigation this summer in Center Township.Vice officers were conducting surveillance on a suspected drug house about 5:40 p.m. July 11 when they saw a vehicle leave the home and meet up with other vehicles in the parking lot at the rear of the Clearview Mall in Center Township.Police recognized Zmijowski as being part of the apparent meeting. Later, they did a pat-down search of the defendant and found nine stamp bags of heroin and a small baggie of cocaine in his pocket, according to court documents.Additionally, they turned up 13 more bags of heroin and another bag of cocaine on the vehicle floor where Zmijowski was seated. He admitted the drugs were his, documents said, and not those of the driver, Vincent M. Catanzarite, 30, of Lyndora.Catanzarite told police he was meeting up with Zmijowski to give him a ride “in exchange for a bag of heroin,” according to a police affidavit.Zmijowski at some point was released. Police later charged him with felony and misdemeanor drug possession. Documents noted that they got the warrant after being unable to find the suspect.Catanzarite is charged with two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
State Police, Mercer4:31 p.m. Thursday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Kathy L. Burton, 56, of Mercer struck another SUV on Route 208 in front of the Country Fair store in Springfield Township. Police cited Burton for improperly entering or crossing a road. Madeline J. Glenn, 19, of Grove City was the other driver.4:42 p.m. Thursday — A pair of SUVs driven by Nicole M. Gearhart, 31, of Sandy Lake and Pierce J. Bowser, 16, of Jackson Center collided at Route 173 and Sandy Lake Grove City Road in Worth Township, Mercer County. No one was injured, but Bowser’s vehicle had to be towed.1:30 p.m. Tuesday — Icy road conditions were blamed for a two-vehicle wreck on Route 208 a little west of Interstate north in Springfield Township. The accident happened when a pickup truck driven by Denise R. Kelvington, 53, of Slippery Rock skidded into the side of a tractor-trailer driven by Michael C. Ewart, 39, of Allison Park, Allegheny County.
