JACKSON TWP — Several township roads are planned for improvements in 2017.

The following are scheduled for work in the new year: Gudekunst Road, Lutz Road, Russell Road, High Acres Road, Schar Road and Oak Hill Drive.

The projects are part of the township’s capital improvements plan that will be considered again this year.

“We had some catching up to do,” Supervisor Ron Lutz said. “After next year, we’re pretty much caught up.”

The township’s expenditures for improvements are projected to be about $188,000, according to the 2017 budget approved Thursday evening.

About one-third of Gudekunst Road near Zehner School Road was worked on this year.

The township will work on the middle third of the road next year. The remaining part of the road will be addressed after the completion of an expected pipeline project by Energy Transfer, also planned for 2017.

Lutz Road will be given a new surface.

Rex Energy will provide base repair for 1½ inches of wearing course for more than half of the road extending from Route 19.

The remaining part of the road will be given base repair and overlay to its intersection with Zehner School Road.

Russell Road will include a full depth reclamation of the road’s existing surface, providing a concrete base and a flexible binder application.

The Russell Road project is being funded by a $70,000 grant from Butler County. That amount is in addition to the $188,000 for township expenditures.

“It’s a dead-end residential road that has needed attention for some time,” township manager Chris Rearick said. “The grant from the county helps us move into the next phase of repairing residential roads.”

The township has been planning and executing road projects for the past five years.

This year, improvements were made for Gregg Drive, Little Creek Road, Fanker Road, Gudekunst Road and Textor School Road.

Rearick said once all roads are repaired, the township hopes to implement an overlay program to anticipate when roads need further improvements.
