Slippery Rock PoliceWednesday — Michael J. Denny Jr., 20, of Renfrew was charged with driving under the influence stemming from an incident last month in Slippery Rock.Police said officer Jake Ingram was on duty about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 30 when he saw Denny’s car hit a guard post in the parking lot at the Sheetz convenience on Franklin Street. The suspect got out of the vehicle and walked into the store.The car, however, began to roll backward toward a fuel pump. Ingram ran to the car and positioned himself behind it, stopping the vehicle before it hit the pump, according to court documents.When Denny walked out of the store, the officer yelled for him to “put the vehicle’s emergency brake on.” But the suspect instead replied, “Na, I think I’m just going to head home now,” a police affidavit said.Ingram again told Denny to activate the emergency brake. He sat down in the driver’s seat but did not immediately put the brake on. He started the car and the officer ordered him to put the brake on.Police said Denny put the car in gear and started pulling forward before he eventually put the emergency brake on.The defendant, who smelled of alcohol, police said, later failed sobriety tests. He was arrested. In the car’s center console, police found a marijuana pipe and a suspected marijuana roach under the driver’s seat floor board.A breath test showed Denny’s blood-alcohol level was 0.207 percent, documents said, or more than 10 times the state’s 0.02 percent legal limit for someone under age 21.When advised of the findings, the affidavit said, Denny told the officer that he “drank .207 percent worth of Bacardi Rum that (I) found on the side of the road” at his apartment prior to traveling to the store for food.Police said he also acknowledged to smoking marijuana in the past 24 hours.Denny is charged with DUI by a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia, underage drinking and disorderly conduct.
State Police, Butler2:57 a.m. Sunday — Jesse Biondo, 17, of Butler was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at Route 19 and Prospect Road in Brady Township. Police said they also found an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.2:54 a.m. Saturday — Lynn Alan Blake, no age given, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Mitchell Avenue in Butler.1:32 p.m. Thursday — Jason T. Ewing, 30, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting clothing worth about $260 at the Boscov’s store, Clearview Mall in Center Township. Ewing faces a charge of retail theft.Dec. 4 — A 9 mm handgun was stolen from a car at a home on Route 68 in Connoquenessing Township. The theft happened between Dec. 2 and 4.The handgun is described as a black, Smith & Wesson model M&P9C with the serial number HPX3979.
State Police, FranklinThursday — Someone stole a mailbox at the end of the driveway at a home in the 300 block of Summit City Road in Clinton Township, Venango County. The mailbox was taken between 8:15 and 8:30 p.m.
State Police, Mercer4:38 p.m. Friday — No one was hurt in a three-vehicle crash in Springfield Township. The wreck happened when a 17-year-old boy, who police did not identify, turned from Leesburg Volant Road onto Route 19 and into the path of a car.The two vehicles collided, causing Dennis L. Deal Jr., 35, of Volant to lose control of his car, which slid into the front bumper of another car driven by Thomas Fair, 46, of Pulaski. All three drivers were wearing seat belts.Police said they cited the teen driver for a stop sign violation.
