CEOs visit D.C. to tout mergerWASHINGTON — The CEOs of AT&T and Time Warner are heading to Capitol Hill in a bid to convince senators that a merger of their two companies will mean innovative new experiences for consumers.They can expect a skeptical audience.The CEOs, Randall Stephenson of AT&T and Jeffrey Bewkes of Time Warner, are due to appear today before a Senate antitrust panel whose Republican chairman and senior Democrat have said the proposed $85.4 billion merger of the communications giants would potentially raise significant antitrust issues.

Japanese billionaire vows U.S. investmentWASHINGTON — Winning praise from President-elect Donald Trump for being a “great man of industry,” Japanese tech billionaire Masayoshi Son promised to invest $50 billion in new startups in the United States, committing to creating 50,000 new jobs.Son is the founder and chief executive of Japanese technology and telecoms giant SoftBank, which owns the U.S. mobile carrier Sprint. Sprint shares initially spiked after the announcement. Son left Trump Tower after being escorted down the elevator by the president-elect, who touted the pledge before waiting investors.

SeaWorld cutting 320 jobs nationwideORLANDO, Fla. — SeaWorld Entertainment is eliminating 320 jobs across the company.The company said the goal of the restructuring is to reduce costs and improve the company’s operations. The cuts involve both salaried and hourly workers.SeaWorld makes the move after struggling with falling attendance and revenue in the face of a campaign by animal-rights activists.The company has parks in Florida, Texas, California, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
