Rock men post pair of victories
Merdic Green tipped in a rebound at the buzzer, lifting the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team to a 71-69 win over visiting West Chester Saturday afternoon.
SRU junior guard Khyree Wooten had attempted a 3-pointer in the closing seconds. The shot did not fall, but Green was in position for the rebound and putback as time expired.
Christal Malalu paced The Rock with 20 points and 14 rebounds while Wooten (14), Naquil Jones (11) and Jordan Marrow (10) each finished in double figures in points.
SRU (5-4, 2-2) then made it a weekend sweep with a 58-36 victory over Cheyney on Sunday. Wooten led the way with 23 points and Malalu pulled down 11 rebounds.
The Butler County Community College men's basketball team slipped to 0-10 with a pair of losses at the Allegany College (Md.) Tournament over the weekend.
Garret McHenry scored 17 points and had four assists in the Pioneers' 96-64 loss to Allegany. Branden Record, Kaden Rock and Chris Pipkin all had 10 points. Jake Anderson grabbed 11 rebounds and Pipkin 10.
BC3 dropped an 87-84 decision to Hagerstown Junior College despite 24 points and 12 rebounds from McHenry. Pipkin had 18 points, Record 14 points and six assists.

SRU outscored Cheyney 35-19 in the second half and The Rock earned a 55-45 win at Morrow Field House.
Lexi Carpenter scored 12 points and Brooke Hinderliter added 11 to pace the scoring for SRU (4-5, 2-2).
Morgan Henderson corralled 11 rebounds in the victory.
In Saturday's 85-78 loss to West Chester, The Rock allowed the Golden Rams to shoot 50 percent (27-of-54) from the field.
A 28-17 deficit in the final quarter was the difference for The Rock.
Carpenter scored 17 points and led a quartet of SRU players who scored in double figures. She was joined by Mallory Heinle (15), Krista Pietropola (14) and C.C. Dixon (10).
