The Butler County commissioners are setting a policy on where natural gas drilling impact fee money goes.

Under a proposed resolution, which is set for a vote Wednesday, the disbursement is prioritized.

County Commissioner Kim Geyer said in an interview the policy would eliminate any confusion as to where the money is spent in the future.

“We want to be clear on what we spend our Act 13 money on,” Geyer said.

According to the proposed resolution, 40 percent of the allocation, or no less than $750,000, would be dedicated to funding the operations or service debt of county emergency services.

Of any remaining funds, another 15 percent of the allocation, or no less than $250,000, would fund technological or other capital improvements.

The third priority would be the proposed county infrastructure bank, which would allot grants and loans for municipal projects.

The infrastructure bank would receive 35 percent, or no less than $200,000, of the total allocation.

If any funds remain after the three priorities are met, the commissioners would distribute the money at their discretion.

Geyer said all of the prioritized uses for the funding, particularly emergency services, helps county residents.

“It benefits everyone in the county,” she said.
