A pickup truck and farm tractor lie tangled together after colliding Friday night in Jefferson Township. “Nobody seems to respect a piece of equipment on the road,” said a neighbor. “When we're driving down the road we get the finger. Horns blow. There's no need for that.”

JEFFERSON TWP — Two men were injured when a pickup truck crashed into a farm tractor on Route 356 Friday night.

The man driving the GMC Sierra was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

The man driving a John Deere 30-20 — found thrown from the vehicle and lying face down on the road by first responders — was taken by ambulance to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Neither man was immediately identified.

Officials said the tractor driver had been driving north on 356, but was turning into the parking lot in front of the Field House restaurant in the 900-block of the highway when it was struck in the rear area by the pickup.

The 9:15 p.m. collision, which left the two vehicles a spectacle of twisted metal and tires along Route 356, drew a crowd of a half dozen men wearing Carhartt jackets and work boots.

They refused to give their names but said the man on the tractor owns a beef cattle farm about a half a mile away.

“We are all on the road a good bit around here,” said one man who only acknowledged that he lives nearby and farms. “Nobody seems to respect a piece of equipment on the road. When we’re driving down the road we get the finger. Horns blow. There’s no need for that.”

Police are investigating the collision, but did not immediately provide a report.

Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and also helped establish the helicopter landing area at a nearby ballfield.
