Teen will stand trial in mall shootingPITTSBURGH — A teenager accused of wounding three people — including two bystanders — at the Monroeville Mall last year is set to stand trial.Tarod Thornhill, 18, of Penn Hills has pleaded not guilty to charges in Allegheny County including attempted homicide and aggravated assault in the February 2015 shootings in Macy’s at the mall.Thornhill was 17 when the shooting occurred and his attorney was unsuccessful in trying to move the case to juvenile court, which would only have jurisdiction until he’s 21. Instead, he faces decades in prison if convicted.Police say Thornhill wounded a married couple with the gunfire that also wounded a 20-year-old man with whom Thornhill had an altercation earlier that evening.
Appeal rejected in infant’s deathGREENSBURG — A judge has ruled that a third-degree murder conviction against a Western Pennsylvania man serving 15 to 30 years in the death of his infant daughter will stand.Westmoreland County Judge Christopher Feliciani rejected an appeal from 30-year-old Clayton Mibroda on Friday.Mibroda was convicted in the death of 20-day-old Natalee two days after Christmas in 2011. A coroner ruled that she died of head and chest injuries.Mibroda, who blamed the child’s mother, said his conviction was contrary to evidence presented in his 2013 trial.His court-appointed attorney said Friday that he found no basis for an additional appeal.
