Lloyd G. “Bud” Shick
Lloyd G. “Bud” Shick, 87, of Fawn Township passed away Sunday at home, following a brief illness.
He was born March 12, 1929, in Vandergrift, the son of the late Henry and Hazel Morgan Shick.
Lloyd worked for four years at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Mill and retired from PPG Research Lab as a senior lab technician after a successful 40-year career. During his professional career at PPG, he was the recipient of multiple patents.
After retirement, he began creating handcrafted wind chimes to sell at fairs and craft shows, which were well sought after through several states. He was a member of the Lighthouse Fellowship Center in Buffalo Township, a 1948 graduate of Tarentum High School and attended Penn State New Kensington.
Bud was a profitable fur trapper in his youth. He was an award-winning, avid fisherman and hunter. He excelled at training beagles to be his hunting companions. Bud was a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan and a gifted professional photographer, and he loved to travel. His health regimen of daily long distance walking with his friend was the catalyst for him creating his unique line of walking sticks.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Muriel C. Kuntz Shick; his daughters, Judith (David) Lippold of Saxonburg, Wendy (Scott) Garmon of Wesley Chapel, N.C., Geanie (Donnie) Jones of Monroeville and Mindy (Mark) Wirick of Fox Chapel; and his grandchildren, Jason Hockenberry, Katie (Brian) Patrick, Matthew Garmon, Nicholas (Susie) Skowronski and Jenna (Allen Reynolds) Skowronski.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, LeeAnn Hockenberry; and his sister, Dorothy Rowan.
SHICK — Visitation for Lloyd G. “Bud” Shick, who died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Duster Funeral Home, 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum.Visitation also will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon Thursday at the Lighthouse Fellowship Center in Buffalo Township, with his brother, the Rev. Richard L. Shick, officiating. Burial will be at the Mt.
