Potential PSU jurors chosen
BELLEFONTE, Pa. — Nineteen people were selected as potential jurors Monday in a lawsuit by a former Penn State assistant football coach who says he witnessed onetime fellow coach Jerry Sandusky abuse a boy in the team shower.
The jurors will hear Mike McQueary’s defamation, whistle-blower and misrepresentation lawsuit against the university — 12 jurors and four alternates will be selected.
The jury selection process could wrap up today, and opening statements are scheduled in a week.
McQueary says he was working as a graduate assistant coach when in 2001 he was in a locker room and noticed Sandusky sexually abusing a boy. He reported it the next morning to then-head coach Joe Paterno, who in turn alerted administrators.
McQueary says he was retaliated against by the university for reporting Sandusky and helping the prosecution.
