David T. Leslie
David T. Leslie, 67, of Butler, passed away Tuesday at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 23, 1948, in Kittanning, Pa., to Dorothy (Shannon) Ayers and the late Robert D. Leslie.
David was a graduate of Kittanning High School. He attended Butler County Community College, where he received his associate degree.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 as a member of the 13th Combat Aviation Battalion, 336th Assault Helicopter Company and the 164th Combat Aviation Group.
David worked for Allegheny Power as a meter reader from January 1971 to 2008. He was a life member of the VFW Post 249, member of the American Legion Post 117, member of the Moose Lodge 64, and the French and Belgian Club of Butler.
He served as President of Local 102-J, Utility Workers Union from 1975 to 1978, the Secretary-Treasurer from 1988 to 1991 and President from 1977 to 2008. He was called up as a member of 911 Medical Squadron for “Desert Storm” duty in 1991 in the United States Air Force Reserve.
David enjoyed hunting, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed being a disc jockey under the name of the Patriot. He also assisted in raising funds for the families of wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center — “Operation Family Reunion.”
He is survived by his wife, Janie (Toy) Leslie, who he married on Feb. 1, 1969; one son, Bart D Leslie of Wisconsin; one daughter, Deborah “DJ” Leslie of Maryland; three granddaughters, Sarah, Mary and Julia Leslie; one brother, Steve Leslie and his wife, Lorraine, of Butler; and one sister, Rhonda Galizia and her husband, Joseph Galizia, of Beaver, Pa.
LESLIE — Friends of David T. Leslie, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St.The funeral service will be immediately following at 8 p.m. with the Rev.
