BC3 volleyball serves up Dig Pink match
BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College’s volleyball team is serving up breast cancer awareness.
The BC3 Pioneers will host the Penn Highland Community College Lady Black Bears for the annual Dig Pink match from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 14 at the field house.
Before the game, both teams will be selling Dig Pink T-shirts to raise money for the Sideout Foundation, a national organization that provides grants for breast cancer research and services.
The Pioneers will decorate the gym for the occasion.
“It’s a fun event, but everybody takes it seriously,” volleyball coach Rob Snyder said. “It’s a personal event for everyone. I think everyone knows someone who’s had breast cancer.”
BC3’s volleyball team began holding Dig Pink events, the Sideout Foundation’s October breast cancer rallies, in 2010 at the request of several players.
While volleyball games are typically free for the public, those who attend the Dig Pink game are admitted for $5, or for $3 with the purchase of a T-shirt.
Last year brought a crowd of about 100 people.
“Come support great volleyball and a great cause,” Snyder said.
