Smoke damages church youth center
WASHINGTON TWP — Emergency responders say a state police fire marshal will investigate the cause of an interior fire this morning that damaged a building a township church used as a youth center.
The fire, which was reported at about 11:45 a.m. at 1016 Annisville Road, drew multiple volunteer fire companies to the property, but injured no one according to Eric Feicht, assistant chief of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department. Feicht said the fire was contained to the building's interior and knocked down by firefighters before it could damage the exterior of the building, which is wooden and bears the sign, “Yommer Hall.”
The property is owned by the Church of God of Prophecy, according to neighbors and church members at the scene.
