Bartramian Audubon Society is offering a birding field trip to Elk County (call 724-496-4856) on Oct. 8. These field trips are free, but participation is limited.

Moraine State Park, Muddy Creek Township, will host a night hike for 8 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday from the outdoor classroom on the North Shore. A “Go Paddle Your Own Canoe” workshop is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday; registration is required at 724-368-8811.

McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, off Route 422, will have the 24th annual Heritage Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 24 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 25. Activities will include crafts, music, a Civil War encampment and free tours of the mill. Admission and parking are free. Call 724-368-8811.

A star party sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh is to begin at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 24, weather permitting, at the Nicholas E. Wagman Observatory in Deer Lakes Regional Park near Russellton. Call 724-224-2510.
