Drugs, cash seized during traffic stop
MIDDLESEX TWP — A felon was caught with dozens of bags of suspected heroin and hundreds of dollars after being stopped for speeding last week, police said.
Herbert Lee Walker, 21, of Pittsburgh is being held in the Butler County Prison on felony drug possession and other charges stemming from his arrest Thursday morning.
Middlesex Township Patrolman Alyssa Mathews was on duty in an unmarked cruiser about 9:45 a.m. when she spotted the defendant’s car speed by on Route 8 north and Old Route 8, police said.
The officer estimated the car was traveling about 70 mph, well over the posted speed limit. She quickly pulled over the vehicle just south of North Trail.
She immediately smelled marijuana coming from the car, with three passengers in it.
Erica R. Reedy, 20, of Pittsburgh, one of the passengers, turned over to police a bag containing suspected marijuana and a pill, believed to be a narcotic painkiller, that was stashed in her pants, according to court documents.
Police searched Walker and also found him with a small bag of suspected marijuana and $550 in currency.
Later, officers looked through the car and found a cigarette pack in the driver’s door. The pack contained 38 stamp bags of suspected heroin.
In the door, police also seized a cell phone and a scale.
Walker, who has a 2014 felony conviction for carrying a gun without a permit, was arraigned on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Additionally, he was cited for three traffic violations.
He was placed in the county prison on $25,000 bail following arraignment.
Reedy is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
