Harley-Davidson to cut 100 Pa. jobsYORK, Pa. — Harley-Davidson plans to cut more than 100 jobs at a plant in Pennsylvania.The motorcycle company is eliminating 200 positions across the country, including about 115 jobs at its Springettsbury Township plant in York County. Union officials say layoffs will begin in early October and will finish by the end of November.Harley-Davidson spokesman Bernadette Lauer said the company is continually evaluating the industry and making changes to “right-size” the company.Brian Zarilla, president of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local 175 said the company had about 2,000 hourly workers at the plant as of 2009. Now about 950 union members work there, he said.

McDonald's president leavesNEW YORK — McDonald's says the president of its U.S. business is retiring after about two years on the job, marking the latest executive change as the fast-food giant tries to reinvent itself by bringing in a relative outsider to lead its flagship region.The company said Mike Andres, who is 58 and stepped into his role in October 2014, will retire at the end of the year. He will be replaced effective Jan. 1 by Chris Kempczinski, 47, who joined the company last year from Kraft Heinz.Kempczinski's limited experience with McDonald's marks a change for the company — the past three presidents of the U.S. business have been McDonald's veterans.

Bank earnings rise for periodWASHINGTON — U.S. banks' earnings in the April-June period rose 1.4 percent from a year earlier as growth in lending fueled interest income.The data issued Tuesday by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. showed continued strength in the banking industry eight years after the financial crisis struck. However, the impact of low oil prices on energy companies led banks to continue to post bigger losses on commercial and industrial loans.
