Olympic medal found in trashATLANTA — An Olympic champion is thanking a 7-year-old Atlanta girl who found his gold medal in a pile of trash weeks after it got stolen.Joe Jacobi won the medal in men’s canoe double slalom at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Jacobi says it was stolen when somebody broke into his car in June.Weeks later, Chloe Smith was walking with her father when she spotted the gold medal discarded in a pile of garbage. Chloe returned the medal to Jacobi, who had posted about the theft on social media. The former Olympian then promised to visit Chloe’s school and let her classmates know about her good deed.Jacobi spoke Monday to Chloe’s first-grade class at Woodson Park Academy. The Olympian brought his recovered gold medal with him.

Report: Clowns lure kids to woodsGREENVILLE, S.C. — A neighborhood in South Carolina is reporting that people dressed as clowns have been seen trying to lure children into the woods.Greenville County deputies say they’ve found no evidence of anyone behind the apartment complex where residents reported seeing clowns trying to attract children.Drew Pinciaro of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Monday that officers investigated the woods behind Fleetwood Manor Apartments last week after receiving the reports but found “no signs of suspicious activity or characters dressed in clown attire.”Patrols in the area are being increased.An incident report from the sheriff’s office says that several children reported that clowns tried to lure them into the woods with money.

Lennon’s killer again denied paroleALBANY, N.Y. — John Lennon’s killer will remain behind bars after being denied parole for the ninth time.The New York State Board of Parole on Monday announced that it has again denied parole to Mark David Chapman, who on Dec. 8, 1980, shot and killed the former Beatle outside his Manhattan apartment.The 61-year-old Chapman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is serving a sentence of 20-years to life in Wende Correctional Facility in western New York.
