Police arrest suspect with stolen guns

JACKSON TWP — A Lawrence County man remains jailed on six-figure bail after police found him with two stolen handguns.

Jackson Township police were looking for Daniel C. Leasher, 29, of Volant in connection with the theft of $11,000 in jewelry stolen during a home break-in when they caught him Thursday with the firearms,

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Leasher on two felony counts each of theft and receiving stolen property. He is in the Butler County Prison on $150,000 bail.

But authorities said the charges are just the beginning of Leasher’s legal troubles.

“He’s under investigation for other burglaries — multiple burglaries in multiple counties,” Jackson Township police Chief Terry Seilhamer said Monday.

Seilhamer would not elaborate on the ongoing investigation, which is being speared by state police in Allegheny County. State police did not return a telephone call Monday.

Jackson Township police’s arrest of Leasher stemmed from a burglary investigation earlier this month.

The victims said someone between Aug. 1 and 4 broke into their house on Rock Lake Drive and stole several pieces of gold and diamond jewelry, a working .22-caliber revolver and an antique flintlock pistol, according to court documents.

The couple said they were out of town for several days when their home was burglarized.

Investigators the following week learned that the jewelry had been sold Aug. 4 to a gold store in the Pittsburgh area. Receipts identified Leasher as the seller, documents said.

Officers on Thursday nabbed the suspect at a home on Toll Gate Road in the township. Seilhamer said when police arrested him, he had both stolen firearms with him as well as 20 stamp bags of suspected heroin.

He eventually admitted to breaking into the Rock Lake Drive home, stealing the guns and jewelry, and selling the jewelry, worth a combined $11,000, police said.

Seilhamer said police plan to later charge Leasher with burglary and possession of a controlled substance, in connection with their investigation.

Authorities, however noted that he will face even more unrelated charges for additional burglaries once state police complete their investigation.

“He’s cooperating with investigators,” Seilhamer said, in those other cases.
