2 men charged after altercation at rock concert
PITTSBURGH — A Butler man and his uncle are facing aggravated assault charges after Pittsburgh police say they kicked, punched and spat on officers after being thrown out of a Ted Nugent concert Tuesday night.
Daniel Cunningham, 30, of Butler is facing seven counts of aggravated assault, a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest, and one summary count each of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
George Raiders, 53, of Hampton, who police identified as Cunningham’s uncle, faces one felony charge of aggravated assault, one misdemeanor charge each of resisting arrest and defiant trespass, and a summary charge of disorderly conduct.
The charges against both men come after an incident at Stage AE, where police say Cunningham was in the process of being thrown out of a Ted Nugent concert for passing out in the middle of the concert floor. In court documents, officers say Cunningham cried and refused to speak with officers before turning violent — kicking at officers and screaming at them to get away from him.
Police said Raiders was initially able to calm Cunningham down, but when he started to return to the concert, Cunningham began to scream and spit at officers, and Raiders “took an aggressive stance,” and got in one officer’s face, screaming at him to leave Cunningham alone.
Police then ejected both men from the concert and placed Cunningham under arrest. He began kicking two medics and attempting to spit on officers and medics while he was placed in handcuffs, police said in court documents.
Raiders was escorted out of the venue and locked out, but refused to leave and dropped his wallet and phone inside the gate. Police then arrested Raiders for defiant trespass, according to court documents, and he punched an officer in the chest.
Police said Cunningham’s attempts to kick and spit on officers continued as they attempted to place him in a police cruiser. One officer punched him twice in the face to subdue him.
Later, at Mercy Hospital where Cunningham was taken for treatment of a facial injury due to being punched, he also bit an officer’s hand, police said in court documents.
According to court documents both men were taken to Allegheny County Jail and were released Wednesday after posting bond.
