“Amongst the Waves,” an oil painting by Kristy Dubinsky, is part of the fifth annual Invitational Art Show opening Friday at The Butler Art Center.

The Butler Art Center will open its fifth annual Invitational Art Show on Friday featuring more than 100 pieces of art by more than 50 artists.

A reception is planned for 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

The reception will have hors d'oeuvres and live music.

Artists participate by invitation only and are among the best and most regarded in the Butler County area. Art will be in all forms of media.

Cash prizes of $2,000 will be awarded, and the show will be judged by two area artists, Kim Friethaler and Marianne Hilke.

Following the reception, the exhibition will continue through Aug. 26.

The “2008 Gallery” exhibit continues through Aug. 26 in the Underground downstairs at the center.

The Butler Art Center at 344 S. Main St. is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
