Butler Police3:53 a.m. Sunday — Jedediah L. Owens-Vickers, 24, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, Jennifer Blystone, during a domestic dispute as they walked in the 500 block of Virginia Avenue.Blystone told police that an argument over money precipitated the incident, according to court documents. She said Owens-Vickers pushed and slammed her to the ground several times, causing pain to her side.Police said that while they spoke to Blystone, Owens-Vickers repeatedly yelled at the woman in an apparent attempt to “intimidate” her, documents said.Owens-Vickers later denied assaulting Blystone and claimed that she fell down on her own. He was arraigned on charges of simple assault and disorderly, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.Friday — Cynthia Lee Claypool, 44, of Butler was charged with shoplifting after being caught Aug. 1 allegedly shoplifting eight packets of Kool-Aid at Friedman’s supermarket on West Brady Street. The merchandise is valued at $2.58. Claypool, who has one prior for shoplifting conviction, is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.Friday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Darrell Merriwether, 48, who has no known address, on charges he failed to return a rental vehicle.Merriwether on Aug. 1 rented a 2005 Ford van at Leeway Rent-A-Car on Pillow Street. The agreement, court documents said, was for him to return the van Aug. 3. But he didn’t.Company officials said when they tried to contact him on his cell phone, the calls went to voice mail. Police said they searched for the suspect but could not find him.Merriwether is charged with a felony count of theft of services.Thursday — Shaun M. Schantz, 28, of Pittsburgh was charged with shoplifting several items about 1 a.m. Aug. 1 at the Sunoco A-Plus on West Jefferson Street. He allegedly left with the merchandise and was later identified. Schantz, who has one prior shoplifting conviction, is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.
Butler Twp PoliceMonday — Brian B. Abbott, 42, of Butler was charged with drunken driving stemming from a crash about 4 p.m. July 24 at New Castle and Duffy roads. Police later found Abbott after he allegedly drove away and tried to hide his vehicle.In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with resisting arrest, accident involving injury, hit-and-run, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and reckless driving.7:55 a.m. Aug. 2 — Alan Naidus, 62, of Butler lost control of his car apparently after falling asleep and crashed on Route 422 west near the Mercer Road overpass. He was not hurt, but his car had to be towed.
State Police, ButlerFriday — Shayna M. McDowell, 21, of Butler was charged with trafficking heroin last year in Butler.Police said the charges stem from a controlled drug buy Sept. 16. The vice unit investigation used a police informant to set up the deal at a parking lot on West Jefferson Street, according to court documents.McDowell allegedly sold 18 stamp bags of heroin to the informant for $180. Lab tests later determined the heroin weighted 21 grams.She is charged with delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of a criminal facility, both felonies, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. Her bail was set at $25,000 during arraignment.
State Police, Kittanning1:12 a.m. Monday — A 27-year-old Karns City man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he was pulled over for an equipment violation on Route 422 in West Franklin Township. Charges are pending lab results.3:38 a.m. Sunday — A 26-year-old man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of DUI after he crashed in the Walmart parking lot at Hilltop Plaza. Charges are pending lab results.2:08 a.m. Saturday — Police found a 15-year-old Kittanning boy impaired by drugs and driving a stolen car on Tarrtown Road in East Franklin Township. The boy, who police did not identify, also had unspecified drugs and other contraband.He faces numerous criminal and traffic charges in Armstrong County juvenile court.7:28 p.m. Friday — Police found 86 stamp bags of suspected heroin in a vehicle following a traffic stop on Route 28 north in South Buffalo Township. The driver, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving.A search of the vehicle, the driver and two passengers, who police also did not identify, turned up the alleged drugs. Charges against the three occupants, all of Armstrong County, are pending lab results.Noon Friday — Two unknown boys were spotted throwing rocks at a 60-year-old man’s vehicle. The rocks struck the passenger side.
State Police, Mercer,/b>Friday — A 21-year-old Boyers man was arrested after he allegedly became unruly at the Grove City Medical Center in Pine Township, Mercer County. During the incident, the suspect allegedly yelled profanities and exposed himself. The man, who police did not identify, faces charges of disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and open lewdness.
