David Tack Sr.
David Homer Tack Sr., 75, of Butler passed away Saturday at his home.
He was born Sept. 19, 1940, in Butler to the late Homer Merle Tack and Elenora (Garing) Tack.
Dave was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for 44 years. He served many terms on church council, served on many committees and served as president of the congregation. Dave was most recently a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and the narrator for the Christmas program.
Dave has been a member of the Butler Lodge 272 since 1976. He served as master of the lodge in 1977, was treasurer for 23 years, was organist since 1978 and was the Bible presenter. The Masonic organizations he belonged to were the Butler Chapter, Butler Council, Lorraine Commandery, New Castle Consistory, Syria Shrine, Butler Caravan, Shrine Luncheon Club and the overseer of the project of the Masonic Picnic Shelter Committee.
Dave was a member of the Allegheny Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club. He was a Junior Achievement volunteer for the K-6 program for more than 10 years at the Broad Street School. He served on the committee to rebuild Diamond Park in 1979 and was instrumental in building a home for Kathryn Seelbaugh on Boyd Avenue.
He served on the Chamber of Commerce, where he served on the Spark Club Committee, chaired the “Welcome to Butler” sign committee and designed and built two signs. He was also a member of the Butler Rotary Club, where he received the Paul Harris Award.
David's passion was his Cross Ministry, inspired by John C. Tack. He manufactured more than 82,000 small wooden crosses with meaningful prayers and messages for inspiration and peace. They have been distributed worldwide.
Dave served as president of the PTA at the Center Township School. He was an original board member of at the Butler County Vo-Tech School, where he served on the Vo-Tech Authority Board since it's inception in 1979. He continued to serve as chairman of the board. Dave served on the advisory committee for the heavy equipment repair. He also served on the General Advisory Committee. Dave was on the committee for Butler County Against Heroin.
He was one of the founders in Butler County of the Stand Tall Program, where he had been on the board of directors since its beginning and served as treasurer.
Dave as a young boy with his father, Homer Tack Sr., hauled Christmas trees for the Lions Club of Butler, and he has continued to do so. He received the Senior Butler County Distinguished Service Award.
David was the founder of David H. Tack, Inc. 1968, and cofounder of DHT Construction in 1987, retiring in 2004.
Dave graduated from Butler High School in 1958, then attended Penn State University's main campus.
He is survived by his three sons, David H. Tack Jr., Eric (Jody) Tack and David (Cindy) Benedict Youngstown, Ohio; two daughters, Robin (Dale) Swidzinski and Eileen Benedict of Youngstown, Ohio; five grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Sherman, Maura Swidzinski, Dylan Swidzinski, Olesia Benedict and Katie Knights; one great-granddaughter, Jadyn Tack; two brothers, Newton (Mary Ellen) Tack and Homer (Diane) Tack; one sister, Elenora Tack; and seven nieces and nine nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Nancy E. (Benedict) Tack, who he married July 2, 1986, and who passed away April 22, 2012; and one brother, John Tack.
TACK — Friends of David Homer Tack Sr., who died Saturday, July 2, 2016, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Members of the Butler Lodge 272 will conduct a service at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St. Butler, with the Rev.
