Police investigating domestic violence, shooting

WINFIELD TWP — A 28-year-old man was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital Tuesday night with a gun shot wound to the head.

According to a written statement, state police are investigating a domestic violence altercation that occurred at a home in the 500 block of Hembold Avenue around 9:40 p.m.

A female, who is not being identified, sustained mild injuries in the altercation and left the residence, according to the statement by state police.

As she was leaving, she reportedly heard what she believed to be a gunshot and called 911, police said.

When state police arrived, a man was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

According to county emergency dispatch records, the victim was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Neither state police nor Butler County District Attorney Rich Goldinger are releasing the names of the man or woman, or their relationship.

However, both Goldinger and police say the investigation is ongoing.

“We are continuing to investigate what happened at the residence,” Goldinger said. “Nothing has been ruled out at this point.”
