Cranberry man sentenced for sex with teen

A Cranberry Township man will spend up to 30 months in prison for assaulting a teenage girl, beginning about seven months after he was released from prison for assaulting a different teenage girl.

Joseph Butler, 24, on Thursday was sentenced by Butler County Judge William Shaffer to serve 12 to 30 months in prison followed by 90-months of probation.

Butler, who pleaded guilty to statutory sexual assault and a felony count of corruption of minors, reportedly had sex with a 15-year-old girl 50 times between Oct. 2013 and June 2014.

The victim did not appear at the sentencing hearing.

Prior to this assault, in March 2013, Butler pleaded guilty to statutory sexual assault of a different 14-year-old girl.

Based in part on the new conviction, the judge last month declared Butler a sexually violent predator and ordered him to register his wherabouts with state police for the rest of his life.
