Martin Edward “Ed” McAlpine

Martin Edward “Ed” McAlpine, 76, of Hardin, Texas, formerly of Mars, died Wednesday at the Liberty Health Center in Liberty, Texas.

Born Oct. 4, 1939, in Butler, he was the son of the late John S. and Goldie Marie Gibson McAlpine.

Ed had worked at the Playtime Equipment Co. in Mars and also enjoyed farming at the Weissert Farm in Mars.

He had served in the U.S. Navy and had been aboard the U.S.S. Frances Marion during the Bay of Pigs.

He was a member of the Mars Volunteer Fire Company, now the Adams Area Fire District.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Nualph McAlpine, who he married June 6, 1991; his sister, Nancy Painter of Zelienople; his brother, James McAlpine; his sister-in-law, Connie McAlpine of Callery; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, John “Jack” and Kenneth McAlpine.
