John A. Martin

John A. “Drew” Martin, 85, of Butler passed away Saturday at the Halls of Honor Hospice of VA Butler Healthcare.

Born Sept. 9, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late J. Campbell and Pauline Brooks Martin.

Drew was employed at Butler Armco for 36 years, retiring in 1988. Through hard work and continuing education, he progressed from being a laborer to working as an engineering draftsman to eventually becoming a graphic artist and assistant supervisor of Armco's print shop.

He was a graduate of Butler High School, Class of 1948.

A proud veteran, Drew served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. He belonged to American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.

He served as vice chairman of the Butler Township Planning Commission from 1978 to 1984 and as a member of the Pennsylvania Planning Commission from 1976 to 1984. He formerly was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts, the General Butler Vagabonds Drum and Bugle Corps, the American International Open Championship and the Woodbury Estates Civic Association.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Will Martin; two sons, Cam Martin and his wife, Susi, of Tehachapi, Calif., and James Martin and his wife, Jean, of Meadville; one daughter, Cathy J. Valasek and her husband, Rich, of Cadogan; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Drew was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Bush Martin, who passed away in 1961; his second wife, Jayne E. Bowser Martin, who passed away in 1987; and his brother, Thomas B. Martin, who passed away in 1993.

MARTIN — Friends of John A. “Drew” Martin, who died Saturday, June 18, 2016, will be received from noon to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.Funeral Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Donald Aull of Faith United Presbyterian Church officiating.Burial will take place at the North Cemetery.Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778 and American Legion Post 117.The family requests memorial donations to the Halls of Honor Hospice of VA Butler Healthcare, 325 New Castle Road, Butler, PA 16001, or to the Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 North Main Street Extension, Butler, PA 16001.For more information, please see www.martinfh.net.
