Wil’s Tree
It stands by the porch, strong, straight and tall
Like you, it was much smaller when we got it
As I hear the wind blowing through the leaves
It’s your voice, ‘hello mama’ and I’m comforted.
In the spring, dainty, frilly pink blossoms
Remind me of your softer, gentle side.
Early summer bright green of the leaves
Is followed by deep green; a favorite color of yours.
The fall sees the leaves turn yellow and slip to the ground
While the tree goes to sleep.
In the winter, strings of green lights adorn the branches
And twinkle in the evening sky.
As I watch Wil’s tree through the seasons, I feel the love,
The love you had for us and our love for you.
Happy Birthday sweet gentle giant.
