Everett William “Bill” Campbell

Everett William “Bill” Campbell, 91, passed away Tuesday at the Cedar Park Personal Care Home in Cedar Park, Texas, after a difficult battle with dementia that robbed his family of the devoted, intelligent and funny man they knew and loved.

He was born May 25, 1924, in Rimersburg, Pa., the son of the late Raymond S. and Martha A. Campbell. On April 14, 2001, Bill married Bobette Campbell (Morris) in Hockley, Texas, and she survives.

Bill grew up in Slippery Rock, and he spoke of his hard work on the farm and also his fond memories of hunting and fishing in the area.

Upon graduation from Slippery Rock High School, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy, and at age 19, he had successfully completed flight school and received his wings in Pensacola, Fla. He was shipped to the Pacific Theater as a fighter pilot, aboard the escort carrier, the USS Kadashan Bay. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary actions during World War II.

After the war, Bill attended Penn State University, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering. His first employment after graduation was with Lords Manufacturing in Erie, Pa., and during his two years employed with them, he developed a specific rubber compound for aircraft engine mounts that exceeded expectations.

He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in the chemical division for 38 years. During that time Bill served as a Technical Superintendent of the Houston Synthetic Rubber Plant. He was plant manager of CPS, a Goodyear and Michelin joint venture in France. When he returned to the U.S. he served as plant manager of Calhoun Film and latex Plant in Georgia. Bill was plant manager of the Point Pleasant Polyester Plant in West Virginia and plant manager of the Beaumont Chemical Plant in Beaumont, Texas.

His final position was as the director of production at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Corp.'s headquarters in Akron, Ohio. He retired in January of 1989.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Marilyn Campbell (Boller) of Slippery Rock; two sisters, Lucille Fox and Rhoda Steading; and his grandson, Christopher Loudon.

Bill is survived by his children, Tom Campbell (Cathy) of Lago Vista, Texas, Susan Loudon (Randy) of Brockport, Pa., Edward Campbell of Marietta, Ga., and Cindy Albach (Robert) of Austin, Texas.
