Award honors work

Cheryl McNeill
STEP up for Cheryl McNeill

BUTLER TWP — A Butler Township woman recently hired as the municipality’s new assistant manager has been honored with an award from the program that helped her after she was laid-off from her previous job.

On June 17 the Tri-County Workforce Development Board awarded Cheryl McNeill a STEP award for her success in the organization’s Dislocated Worker Program.

McNeill became a dislocated worker in 2015, when she was laid off after working for more than four years in the oil and gas industry, as a hiring manager.

McNeill attended the Profile Re-Employment Program at Butler CareerLink, and became interested in Job Club — a group organized as part of CareerLink’s Career TRACK program. She began attending sessions in December of 2015.

The group meets every Wednesday and shares leads on the job searches, networking and hiring processes.

In April McNeill was hired by Butler Township as its first assistant manager. Since then McNeill has kept the TRACK program updated with new job leads to share with other program participants, said Mary Salony, the board’s director of planning and grant coordination.

The program serves people in Butler, Armstrong and Indiana counties, and offers assessment, career planning, training, resume and job search assistance.
