James C. Burkert

James C. Burkert, 92, of Evans City passed away Friday.

Born Nov. 3, 1923, in Evans City, he was the son of the late Christian and Agnes (Lutz) Burkert.

Jim was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Evans City. He was also a member of the Evans City American Legion for 60 years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed going to the casino.

He was a self-employed barber in Evans City, until he was 90 years old.

Above all, he was a loving family man who will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his two children, James Burkert and his wife, Lana, of Brighton, Colo., and Joyce Barto of Cranberry Township; five grandchildren, Nicole Barto of Warrenton, Va., Justin R. Barto and his wife, Sandra, of Cranberry Township, Cameron J. Burkert and Spencer J. Burkert of Texas and Shaela J. Burkert of Brighton, Colo.; and his loving companion of 18 years, Sally Bergmann.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine J. (Scheidemantle) Burkert; a brother, Grant L. Burkert; and a sister, Louise Oehlbeck.

BURKERT — Friends of James C. Burkert, who died Friday, May 27, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 116 E. Main St., Evans City.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Brandon Johns of St. Peter's Lutheran Church officiating.He will be laid to rest with military honors at Evans City Cemetery.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with Jim's family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
