CLEARFIELD TWP — A 44-year-old township man is accused of stealing and pawning jewelry belonging to his parents, another relative and an ex-wife.

State police Wednesday charged Kenneth Michael Lipscomb with several felonies stemming from the investigation that began after he allegedly broke into the Clearfield Township home of his former wife and her fiance.

The charges are the latest to be filed against Lipscomb, who is already in Butler County Prison awaiting trial on four other cases.

In one of those prior cases, he is suspected of breaking into a home in Butler that his niece’s husband owns.

State police, in the latest charges, allege Lipscomb on April 29 forced his way into a garage and side door at the Burke Road home of Robin Johnson and his fiancee, Tina Koss.

A surveillance camera at the home captured images of the burglar, who resembled Lipscomb, who is Koss’ former husband, according to court documents.

Several pieces of jewelry owned by Koss were taken from the house. Investigators eventually traced those items to a Center Township gold store, which paid Lipscomb about $200 for them, police said.

Those items were recovered.

During a May 6 interview with police, the defendant admitted he was at his ex-wife’s home on the day of the burglary, documents said, and he acknowledged taking her jewelry.

While continuing their investigation, police turned up other stolen jewelry that Lipscomb allegedly sold for less than 20 percent of its value in February and March at a Butler Township gold store.

Police identified the owners of the items as Kenneth L. and Ruby Lipscomb, the defendant’s parents; and Daniel McConnell, the husband of the defendant’s niece.

That jewelry, valued at $2,230, was not recovered. Police said Lipscomb was paid $403 for it.

In a May 11 interview with investigators, according to court documents, he admitted stealing and selling those items,

He is charged in the case with burglary, trespass, theft and receiving stolen property, all felonies. His preliminary arraignment was not immediately scheduled.

Lipscomb has been in the county prison since May 6 when he was arrested in connection with the break-in of a vacant Third Avenue house, also owned by Daniel McConnell.

A day earlier, police at the same house arrested a pair of squatters, who were subsequently charged with operating a methamphetamine lab there.

While investigating the break-in May 5, police found Lipscomb’s attaché case and gym bag.

He is charged in that case with felony trespass.

Lipscomb was previously doing remodeling work at the house before he was fired after McConnell caught him stealing.

Butler police on May 16 charged the suspect in connection with an on-the-job theft. He allegedly took a replacement window that McConnell had purchased for $152.91, and retuned it March 23 for a cash refund, without the owner’s knowledge.

He is charged in that case with theft by deception.

On May 23, Butler police in yet another case accused Lipscomb of forging two checks, for a combined $250, belonging to a city man on May 1. He is charged with forgery, a felony.

In still one other pending case, also filed by city police, he is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia on May 5.

Lipscomb is being held in the county prison on $53,100 bail.
