Jerry E. Hamil
Jerry E. Hamil, 70, of Route 58, Emlenton, Clarion County, passed away Friday evening in the intensive care unit at Clarion Hospital.
Born Aug. 11, 1945, in Higgins Corners, Butler County, he was the son of Francis and Mildred Montgomery Hamil.
He was a 1963 graduate of Moniteau High School.
He served in Vietnam, earning many U.S. Army commendations and medals, including the Bronze Star.
On July 2, 1975, he graduated from the military academy at Ft. Indiantown Gap, Pa., and was commissioned as second lieutenant. Jerry became the platoon leader and then the executive officer at the Brookville Reserve Center. He later became the communications officer at the 429th Engineer Battalion in Uniontown. He was promoted to captain and was the commander of the Brookville Reserve Center Company A 458th Engineer Battalion.
Mr. Hamil was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Group in Butler and the Foxburg American Legion Post 636. He was a member and past master of the Canby Lodge 520 F&AM in St. Petersburg, the Consistory Valley of Coudersport, the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA, and he had been a 32nd degree mason since 1970.
He had been employed at the Quaker State Oil Refining Corp. in Emlenton.
Jerry loved spending time with his family and was a huge Steelers fan
Surviving is his wife, Donna Watson Hamil, who he married May 17, 1969, in Knox. The couple celebrated their 47th anniversary this past Wednesday.
Also surviving are his daughter, Karen McGiffin and her husband, Nathan, of Cranberry; four grandchildren he affectionately referred to as his little buddy Brady, the spirited and entertaining Keira, the sweet and beautiful Kenzie, and his energetic and funny Declan; his sister, Myrna Hamil, and his brother, Larry Hamil, both of Butler; and Kaitlyn and Megan Troth.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
HAMIL — Friends of Jerry E. Hamil, who died Friday, May 20, 2016, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Hile Funeral Home, 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Lewis, pastor of the Salem Reformed United Church of Christ, officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the V.E.T.S.
