FORWARD TWP — A township man is accused of attacking his wife Monday morning during a domestic dispute at their home on Timber Lane.

When the alleged victim tried to drive away, 51-year-old Raymond C. Burr allegedly hopped aboard an all-terrain vehicle and also chased her.

State police arrested Burr on felony and other charges. He is in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

Troopers spoke to the defendant’s wife, Brenda L. Burr, following the incident that happened about 8:30 a.m. She told police that her husband hit her in the head and face five and 10 times, court documents said.

Brenda Burr did not immediately report the alleged assault. Instead, she took one of the couple’s children to the doctor. When she got home, her husband was not there.

But later, when she heard Burr return, she got into her father’s sport utility vehicle and tried to leave.

The defendant started yelling at her, documents said, and he threw a shovel at her SUV while chasing after the vehicle.

Burr got onto a four-wheeler and continued to chase his wife, police said.

He eventually pulled up along side her vehicle and punched the driver’s side mirror. Brenda Burr said he also tried to grab her or the steering wheel of her vehicle.

Troopers described Brenda Burr as having a swollen face. She also showed police several severe bruises on her upper arm and thighs that she said her husband inflicted during a June 13 assault, documents said.

Later at the house, police seized a rifle that Burr had illegally, due to a previous felony conviction.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned the defendant on a felony weapons charge, misdemeanor charges of simple assault, and reckless endangerment, and summary charges of harassment and reckless driving.

A preliminary hearing is June 28 at the office of District Judge Wayne Seibel in Evans City.
