Four motorcycle crashes in a six-hour span on Butler County roads Sunday left five people injured, some with broken bones and all in need of hospital treatment, authorities said.

The wrecks, three of which were one-vehicle, happened between 1:35 p.m. and shortly before 8 p.m.

The first accident occurred in Harmony where a motorcyclist broke a leg after losing control of his bike in the 500 block of Main Street at Harmony Square, rescuers said.

The victim, whose name was not immediately available, was conscious and talking to emergency crews, said Scott Garing, chief of the Harmony Fire District.

Harmony EMS paramedics tended to the driver before he was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Zelienople police, who are investigating, could not be reached for comment this morning.

At 2:45 p.m., a man and woman were found lying on the ground after the motorcycle they were riding wrecked in the 700 block of Prospect Road in Forward Township. State police are investigating but a report was not available. The couple’s names were not known. The man told investigators that he lost control of his bike when a deer jumped out in front of him, authorities said. The woman corroborated that account.

The man suffered road rash to his hand, forearm and shoulder. The woman had road rash to one of her elbows, emergency crews said. The injuries were considered minor.

A Harmomy EMS crew took both victims to Butler Memorial Hospital. Connoquenessing and Evans City volunteer firefighters assisted police at the scene.

A woman about 5:10 p.m. broke her collarbone when she crashed her motorcycle on Hepler Road in Buffalo Township, authorities said. Saxonburg Ambulance took her to an unknown hospital.

Buffalo Township police could not be reached for comment. Buffalo Township and Sarver volunteer firefighters assisted police at the scene.

The fourth wreck happened when a motorcycle driven by David A. Wagner, 25, of Fenelton struck the side of a car on Route 68 at Route 356 near Midas Muffler in Butler Township.

The collision happened, Butler Township police said, when Kevin C. Riordan, 43, of Butler pulled in front of the cycle while turning left from Route 68 onto the Route 356 spur.

Wagner, who was unable to avoid hitting the car, suffered unknown injuries. Butler Ambulance Service tended to him before he was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. His condition was not known this morning.

Police said Riordan was cited for making an improper left turn.
