Arc makes new offer for closed Broad St. school

BUTLER TWP — The Butler School Board on Monday reviewed another offer for the closed Broad Street Elementary School.

Superintendent Dale Lumley said the Arc of Butler County submitted a bid of $400,000, and he was not aware of any expiration dates or conditions on that offer, he told the board.

Previously the Arc, an agency serving the disabled, bid $475,007 for the building. A sales agreement initially was approved by the school board in November. But in December, a newly seated board reversed that decision pending a review of the district consolidation.

The consolidation took place in the summer of 2015, closing five elementary schools and reopening one, Center Avenue, as an alternative and special education facility.

The remaining closed buildings, Broad Street, Clearfield, Meridian and Oakland elementaries were all for sale.

Meridian and Clearfield sales have been approved by Butler County Court of Common Pleas Judge S. Michael Yeager.

The Oakland sale has yet to be approved.

Broad Street is the last building that has not been sold or is the subject of a sales agreement.

Broad Street’s average appraised market value is $456,500.

Previous bids for the school included $150,000 from the Center for Community Resources, and J.M. Beatty Furniture submitted an initial bid of $530,000 and then lowered it to $400,000, a bid that was rejected by the board in March.

Action on the Arc offer may be taken at the June 30 board meeting at the Harriger Educational Services Center, 110 Campus Lane.
