Man jailed for assault
A Zelienople man was arrested Monday night after allegedly assaulting three police officers who responded to a domestic disturbance.
Officers observed that Dylan M. Kerner, 26, was “highly intoxicated and possibly on medication or other substance” at 11:29 p.m. when they responded to his apartment on Hemlock Square, according to the criminal complaint.
Kerner had been arguing with his girlfriend, who was outside the apartment. He told them he thought they were going to break up because she had attended the Pittsburgh Pride Parade over the weekend.
He had “moments of explosive anger” when talking to the police who warned him that he would be arrested if his behavior continued.
She told police that he had screamed at her, shoved her and kicked her out of the apartment after she came home from work. She did not have any injuries or signs of trauma, according to the complaint.
Kerner allegedly told police that he drinks a fifth of vodka a day and takes medication.
When the officers allowed his girlfriend back in the residence to gather some belongings, Kerner allegedly became agitated and tried to push past officers.
Zelienople officer Michael Kopp placed a handcuff on Kerner’s left wrist, but he resisted commands to get on his stomach and place his hands behind his back.
During the struggle, police said he punched and kicked Kopp, Zelienople officer Thomas Goldie and Jackson Township officer Chris Miller.
After Kerner was placed in the back of a police car, he allegedly continued to scream and he bashed his head against the glass on the rear door.
Kerner is charged with three counts of felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor resisting arrest, two counts of disorderly conduct and harassment.
He is in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail.
