PINE TOWNSHIP, Mercer County — A three-vehicle accident Tuesday evening turned out to be fatal after one man died Wednesday night.

A Volant man died from injuries he suffered in the accident at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday on Route 208 and George Junior Road, according to a news release from the state police in Mercer County.

Shaw Grossman Mershimer, 23, of Grove City was driving her Chrysler Imperial east on Route 208 and attempted to turn onto George Junior Road.

She failed to see the vehicle driven by Sonya L. Ray, 47, of Volant headed west on Route 208, and Mershimer’s car hit Ray’s Dodge Caliber head on.

This forced the Caliber to hit the front left corner of the Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck of Christopher L. Kennedy, 36, of Grove City. Ray’s vehicle stopped at a stop sign facing south on George Junior Road.

Bruce Ray, 56, and Sonya Ray both were injured and taken to the Grove City Medical Center. Bruce Ray, who had neck injuries, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he died at 8:51 p.m. Wednesday.

He was not wearing a seat belt.

Mershimer suffered injuries of unknown severity, while Kennedy was not injured.

Kennedy had two passengers, a 1-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. Neither was hurt.
