Truck loses asphalt load on city street

A truck lost part of its load, dumping about a ton of hot asphalt on South Monroe Street shortly after 10 a.m. today.

Officials at the site were waiting for the truck's owner, Wiest Paving, to clear the asphalt. Traffic is restricted to one lane.

The truck, according to Weist employees, had been en route to a company in Buffalo Township. The tailgate apparently came loose causing the spill.

Sgt. Jeremy Walters, who is Butler City police's commercial vehicle safety enforcement officer, was on the scene. He would say only that no one was hurt and a citation will be issued.
