Elderly couple evacuated by firefighters

BRADY TWP — State police assisted two elderly occupants, one bedridden, after at least two electrical outlets began sparking Sunday night at their mobile home near Hall Road.

No one was injured but the Butler chapter of the American Red Cross was called to assist the man and woman at the home at the Brady Hills Trailer Park.

The occupants’ names were not immediately available.

The woman called 911 about 7:50 p.m. when she noticed sparks or smoke coming from two or three electrical outlets, authorities said.

She reported that the older man who lives there is confined to his bed and could not get out.

A trooper got there first and shut off the breaker box. Firefighters arrived a short time later and found at least two charred or discolored outlets.

An adapter in one of those outlets was burned up, said Matthew Wilson, assistant chief of the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera but found no fire in the walls.

The bedridden man did not have to be removed, authorities said, but Red Cross officials were later requested to offer assistance.
