Firehouse Subs makes grants
CRANBERRY TWP — The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation on Thursday celebrated giving two grants to two fire departments at the Firehouse Subs on Route 19.
The foundation gave $11,329 to the East Deer Volunteer Hose Company in Allegheny County for 25 new voice pagers and $26,089 to the Ambridge Fire Department in Beaver County for extrication saws, thermal cameras, natural gas detectors and hand tools.
Representative of both departments thanked the foundation and said that the grants enabled them to replace equipment that was at least 10 years old and not fully functioning.
Firehouse Subs collects donations for its foundation at its restaurants by selling recycled pickle buckets, collecting loose change and asking customers to round their orders up to the nearest dollar. The foundation then awards grants to public safety organizations to buy life-saving equipment or to provide education for the community.
The foundation has given $18 million in grants since 2005, including $230,743 in Pennsylvania.
