Pedestrian injured when hit by truck
JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — A man crossing Bonniebrook Road on foot to check his mailbox Friday evening was hit by a pickup truck, according to responders.
The accident occurred about 7:30 p.m. at 254 Bonniebrook Road, according to the county emergency center dispatch record.
Saxonburg Fire Chief Chris Ballina, whose department responded to the accident, said it appeared both the driver and the pedestrian made moves to miss each other.
“The guy ran to finish (crossing) while the (driver) swerved into the northbound lane evidently to (avoid him), and the guy continued to run across the road thinking the driver would stay in his own lane, and that’s how the driver hit him,” Ballina said.
The identity of both the pedestrian and the driver were not available this morning.
According to Ballina, it appeared that the man rolled up over the hood of the truck, hit the front window and rolled onto the ground. He had blood loss in his left elbow and spoke of rib pain, and was flown to Allegheny General Hospital for what Ballina called “serious injuries.”
“He was alert and talking to us the whole time so that was a good sign,” Ballina said.
The driver was not injured.
Saxonburg Ambulance also was on the scene. A Butler State Police report was not available this morning.
