Young driver hurt in Penn Twp. crash

PENN TOWNSHIP — A one-vehicle accident at 1 p.m. Friday left the 17-year-old driver injured.

The juvenile was on Snapchat on his cell phone while driving his truck southbound on Three Degree Road between Airport Road and Monroe Road when he lost control of his vehicle, according to Penn Township Police.

The truck scraped bark off one tree before it went about another 15 yards before crashing into another tree.

Police officer Jack Ripper said the juvenile suffered a minor head injury when his head hit the windshield.

Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Ripper described the injury as a “four-inch laceration” on the juvenile’s head.

“He was conscious and awake the whole time,” Ripper said.

The juvenile was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. Ripper said he will be charged with traffic violations, including not wearing a seat belt.

Police were assisted by Butler Ambulance Service and Penn Township Fire Department.

The juvenile’s truck was towed from the scene.
