2 die in I-79 crash
JACKSON TWP — State police have confirmed that two people died in a car accident on Interstate 79 northbound just after 9:30 this morning. A Ford SUV was driving north at mile marker 87, near exit 88, when the car rolled multiple times, ejecting a man and a woman from the car. Interstate 79 was closed at Route 528 to allow for a medical helicopter to land, but both individuals were taken by ambulance to UPMC Passavant Cranberry with life-threatening injuries.
They were pronounced dead at the hospital. One of the victims reportedly is from the Johnstown area, according to police.
Police accident reconstructionists have finished with the scene and the road was reopened at 12:25 p.m.
