CONCORD TWP — An elderly man was taken this afternoon to Butler Memorial Hospital after he crashed into a tree off Route 38.

The man, whose identity has not been released yet, fell asleep at the wheel and then veered off the road, when he was headed north on Route 38 about 2:30 p.m., according to state police.

His silver Cadillac crashed into a tree, and his driver-side door was stuck, requiring assistance from the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department, according to Ryan Enscoe, assistant chief.

The man had an injury of unknown severity, but Enscoe said it likely was minor. The man also reported having chest pains.

Police said charges are pending, but no other people were involved in the accident.

Traffic on Route 38 between Dessa Lane and Bryan Road was down to one-lane traffic while the scene was cleared.
