Water line repairs to be done by July
Patching and paving will be finished by the end of June for Butler streets where water lines were replaced.
Weather permitting, Jefferson, Cunningham and Chestnut streets all will have paving and patching done by the first week of June. Bluff Street will have its paving and patching completed by the end of June.
The areas being patched are those that were dug up to replace the water lines; the entire streets are not being paved. This project is separate from the Main Street paving project.
The water line work is being done by Pennsylvania American Water.
Jake Gentile, company operations superintendent, said the replacement of the water lines, some of which were 80 years old, is a success.
Wilson Excavating & Grading replaced the water lines and is doing the paving and patching in a $3.1 million project. None of the roads are closed during the construction.
“These are your water rates at work for you,” said Gary Lobaugh, Pennsylvania American Water external affairs manager. “Pennsylvania American Water is committed to making an ongoing investment in all water systems and the city of Butler is no exception.”
According to Lobaugh, in the past year Pennsylvania American invested $8 million in new water lines, replacing some water lines that were more than 100 years old.
“We conduct an active pipe replacement program, and folks should be able to see improved quality and reliability out of the infrastructure,” he said.
