Jackson reviews projects
JACKSON TWP — The township’s 2016 road paving projects may include a third road.
The bids that the township received for its repaving for Gregg Drive and Fanker Road came in less than expected.
Because of that, the supervisors Thursday night tabled the bids until more research can be done on possibly adding Gudekunst Road to repave all three roads at once instead of separating the projects.
“Tabling it and potentially scheduling a special meeting will allow us an additional week or so to review the current state of Gudekunst Road,” township manager Chris Rearick said.
These are totals for the base bids for the two roads: Youngblood Paving, $97,175; Shields Asphalt Paving, $110,227; and Lindy Paving, $119,162.
An alternate bid could be awarded for repair of Gudekunst Road, which the supervisors said is deteriorating.
These bids for repaving and repairing just Gudekunst Road are: Youngblood Paving, $87,186; Shields Asphalt Paving, $96,637; and Lindy Paving, $90,877.
No time frame has been given for when the repaving will take place.
2 positions created
The supervisors created two new positions for the township.
One is office administrator and police clerk. Anne Savol, the township office administrator, will be in this position.
The other is the office administrator and bookkeeper. Ashley Hazlett was hired Thursday for that.
Supervisor Ron Lutz said the township at one time had four employees, but downsized to two.
The extra two positions were not necessary and were eliminated so the township could build up reserve funds, township manager Chris Rearick said.
Supervisors said the new positions will help with service and address administrative issues.
“The call volume and visits from the public in general has increased both in the police department and the administrative side,” Rearick said. “It provides a better interface for the public.”
Donation made
The supervisors voted to donate $7,500 to the Butler County Transit Authority, which already was in the township budget.
“We do this every year,” supervisor Chairman Trent Geis said.
The authority in return will pay $17,500 to reimburse the township the cost of township employees providing winter maintenance for the Park N’ Ride facility on Lindsay Road.
“It acts as a match along with several other municipalities within the county for their state operating grant,” township manager Chris Rearick said.
