BHS schedules awards ceremonyThe 2016 Butler High School Senior Recognition Night will be at 7 p.m. May 17 at the senior high school, 120 Campus Lane.The evening will begin with an awards presentation in the senior high auditorium followed by a reception in the senior high cafeteria.Numerous academic certificates, scholarships and awards will be presented. Family and friends are invited to attend.

Used book sale set for library lotSAXONBURG — The Friends of the Library will have a used book tent sale and bake sale May 19 to 21 in the South Butler Community Library Parking Lot, 240 W. Main St.The sale, which features thousands of books, will run from 5 to 8 p.m. May 19 during Mingle on Main, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 20 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during Saxonburg’s May Market May 21.

Safety carnival May in ChicoraCHICORA — The Petroleum Valley Youth Center will host a community children’s safety carnival May 21 featuring games, contests and presentations from emergency responders and safety groups.Organizers say that 30 topics of child safety will be covered by representatives from groups including LifeFlight, firefighters, state police and a DUI prevention group.The carnival will be from noon to 3 p.m. May 21, and will be followed by a free concert featuring Isaac Cole and Mikala Lynn at 3 p.m.

Statue unveiling at ceremonyADAMS TWP — The statue “Called to Duty” will be unveiled during memorial services at 2 p.m. May 22 at Adams Township Park, 698 Valencia Road.

Author will visit Butler libraryJoseph Kenyon, author of the novel “All the Living and the Dead” will visit the Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 28.Kenyon has published numerous short stories and poems in literary magazines and anthologies during the past 20 years.
