SUMMIT TWP - One person is dead, state police confirmed, after a two vehicle accident on Route 422 at its intersection with Keck Road.

State Police Cpl. Mike Miller said authorities are still piecing together what happened, but believe the victim, a female, was driving a 4-door sedan east on 422 and attempting to make a left turn onto Keck Road when her vehicle was struck from behind by an SUV-style truck.

Miller said the woman, who was alone in the car at the time of the crash, was dead when emergency responders arrived on scene. A coroner had not yet arrived as of about 7 p.m., and Miller said the state police crash reconstruction team was working to piece together the sequence of events. That work had reduced 422 to one lane, and Miller said he expected the traffic restrictions to last at least another hour.

Police said the driver of the second vehicle was not injured in the crash, and was also alone in their vehicle at the time. Miller said police were in the process of notifying all the members of the victim's family, and were not immediately releasing the names of anyone involved.
