County resolves water issues
The Butler County commissioners Wednesday dealt with water issues in two townships.
They awarded a $207,890 contract to Book & Proch Well Drilling of New Castle for a water supply project for Marion Township.
The project is upgrading Boyers’ water supply, including the installation of a remote for a well pump system.
Wendy Leslie, Community Development Block Grant coordinator, said the township’s 2014 CDBG funds will pay for part of the cost. The township is responsible for coming up with the remainder.
No county money is being used to pay for the contract.
The only other bid was nearly $70,000 higher.
The commissioners also extended the agreement with XTO Energy for a temporary water line on the Hite Bridge in Forward Township.
County solicitor Mike English was authorized to work out a new agreement with XTO, which stretches pipe along the 60-foot bridge.
The company pumps water from Connoquenessing Creek to holding ponds at its well sites.
Kevin Gray, county bridge and fleet director, said in an interview the section of pipe relative to the agreement must be removed when pumping is not being done.
The previous agreement ended in January.
