South Butler reduces 3 teaching positions
JEFFERSON TWP — The South Butler County School District has made three staffing changes despite public outcry from parents, students and teachers.
At the end of this school year, primary school gym teacher Mike Pelloni and middle school art teacher Karen Schawl will have their full-time jobs cut to part-time.
Doug Kamer, an art teacher at the high school, has been furloughed.
The board stressed that the decision was not made based on the budget, but that is was a choice driven by declining student enrollment in the district.
Dozens of people attended the school board meeting Wednesday night in support of the teachers.
Pelloni said after the meeting that he had not actually thought about what he would do if the district did decide to cut his position to part-time.
